1. FASTview Version 2.00
Release of software on 25th August 1999
Bug Fixes:
- Loads of minor changes to code to tighten up and reduce code in general. FASTview now has 5148 lines of code.
- The 'Lights' that warn of file size limit being approached lit up when the left mouse button was pressed over them. This has been sorted.
- If the left mouse button was pressed inside the text area, the program assumed changes had been made. This has been changed so that a change has to be made before the prompt is activated.
- A bug was reported where the font size selection was found not to be working. See 'Changed' below.
- If a drive was not available, the error was trapped but always defaulted the user back to the "C:\" drive. Now the user is routed back the last drive selected.
- If a new text file was created and the file name was the same as an existing file, the old file was overwritten. Now a small prompt appears warning the user and allowing an abort.
- The 'Unlock' code pop-up box showing the user the unlock code used, showed a '0' for shareware users. It now states 'UNREGISTERED' instead of a zero.
- When deleting files from a directory, an error occurred if delete was pressed and no files were listed. This error is now trapped and a message box displayed. In addition to this the display area is flushed and the 'Status Bar' is emptied. Other little bugs in the 'Delete' routine have been either trapped or removed.
- The RTF mode tick box did not refresh the viewable file and automatically switch it into RTF mode. This has been rectified so that it will toggle as the tick box is selected. (This is also true for the HTML mode tick box)
- The first time FASTview was run, its size was too big for 640 x 480 screen resolution. This has been fixed along with the Filter window, which was also too big. FASTview has therefore now been optimised for a screen resolution of 640 x 480 and above.
- The 1000% button (this cannot be seen in 640 x 480 resolution) when pressed would wrap its text, and could end up staying like this.
- Lots of wrongly worded 'Tool Tips' (these are the pop up wordings that appear when you hover over a button or control) in the 'File Filtering' form. These and many others have been changed.
Cleaned Up:
- The numbering convention has been changed so that in future it will be easier to understand updates. The 'Major' number (in this case 2) means that an upgrade from 1 to 2 requires a FULL download and re-install (you should remove the old version first, refer to the 'Uninstall.txt' file). Should an update be from 1.6 to 1.7, this would mean a minor update and the small '.exe' file only needs to be downloaded and saved over the top of the old one (you do not need to remove the program first).
Added:
- Copy, Cut, Paste and Select All have been added and are all active when working within the text area environment for editing purposes.
- An all new search engine has been incorporated to allow easy finding and viewing of files all in one. A small auto scaling and centring preview panel has been incorporated for images only.
- Added the new Font settings to the registry to allow user defined viewing to be maintained.
- Added a new 'Bug Busters' display to thank all of those who contribute to the development of FASTview by reporting BUGS!!!
- When creating a new file, if a new directory was chosen the user was left at the original directory. A new routine has been added which not only takes the user to the appropriate directory but also highlights the newly created file in the file list and displays the blank file.
- Added an HTML browser, which is switchable from viewing HTM and HTML files as text which is editable to a full browser.
- The browser can be either NON ACTIVE or ACTIVE. If the browser is in NON ACTIVE mode any calls that exist in the code which are to the Internet, the browser will NOT launch your dial-up adapter service. This allows anyone developing in HTML to have a quick and simple look at what the page will look like, or simply allow downloaded HTML files etc to be viewed quickly. If the browser is in ACTIVE mode any calls that exist in the code which are to the Internet, the browser WILL launch your dial-up adapter service. You will then be able to surf the net directly from FASTview, enabling you to check links etc.
- The help file can be viewed directly from within FASTview through a new Help file interface, giving the user the opportunity of viewing the help file in both Text and HTML formats. This file is also available through this interface.
- A new display showing the amount of files and directories in the branch selected are being displayed. This replaces the old 'Actual File Size', which was made redundant by the new 'Status Bar'.
- When FASTview is launched the first file in the list is loaded, regardless of its type or the directory. If no file exists, then a blank text form is loaded. This is also true for the 'Refresh' option, when changing drives and when specifying filters in the 'Filter' system.
- When viewing lists of data that go beyond the bounds of the text area, a new 'Word Wrap Off' option has been added to make sure that lists can be viewed as they are meant to be. This option is stored in the registry and is automatically selected on loading.
- Pop up boxes now indicate the full path length when you hover over the 'Directory' list and the full file name when you hover over the 'File' list.
Changed:
- The entire layout of the command structure for the drop down menu's has been re-arranged to bring it in line with industry standards.
- Due to the problem of not being able to change the font size on printing, it was decided to change the concept so that it is now possible to change all aspects of the text viewer mode from font size, font style, font colour etc. This is also now supported when printing. If you have a colour printer then whatever colour the text is will be printed.
- All toolbar buttons and menu options that are not required when the viewer switches modes are now disabled.
- The 'About' box has had a legal notice added.
- Removed the 'Actual File Size' indication, as the new 'Status Bar' also shows the file size. This was an unnecessary duplication.
Updated:
- Both the FASTview help ".txt" and the ".html" files have been updated.
2. FASTview Version 1.13.1 Special Re-Release
Release of software on 24th June 1999
Reason:
- Software was released on the Internet which generated valid codes. Complete code structure re-written.
3. FASTview Version 1.13
Release of software on 16th June 1999
Bug Fixes:
- The 'Application Launcher' was set to launch programs in 'Maximised' mode, this has been rectified.
- When loading the 'Application Launcher' or the 'Active Movie Player', the zoom percentage indicator was not reset to 100%.
- The 'Unregistered' shareware box (which holds more info for the unregistered users) could be maximised and minimised. This has been removed.
Added:
- Added a Status Bar at the bottom of the FASTview window to show File Name, File Size in bytes and the Modified Date.
- Added some 'Quick Keys' to the program, the + and the - keys to zoom in and out by 25% respectively when in 'Image View' mode and the 'Enter' key will launch applications when in 'Application Launcher' mode.
- Drop down menu now includes the above 'Quick Keys'.
- Added a small 'About' box with auto version update.
- Included an 'Unlock Code' menu key to show the registration number upon demand.
Changed:
- Re-organised and recalculated the automatic re-sizing routine in both 'Top' and 'Side' modes of view to accommodate the new 'Status Bar'.
Updated:
- Both the FASTview help ".txt" and the ".html" files have been updated.
4. FASTview Version 1.12
Release of software on 26th March 1999
Bug Fixes:
- Error found when the program calculated the relative positions of all of the visible control boxes when either re-sizing the form or switching from top to side modes.
- Following viewing using the 'Active Movie Player' (sounds and movies), the handover of control back to the scroll mode kept failing, and only allowed one move either up or down the file menu, changed code to fix.
- If a 'Drive Error' - 'Drive Unavailable' error occurred, the system left you on the unavailable drive but showed the contents of the last valid drive. The code will now default back to C:\ and show its contents should this happen.
Added:
- Added new box array to show how close the file being viewed is to the Maximum File Size, as the Maximum File Size is now unlimited.
- A new file type has been added to the text filter viewing which is '*.nfo' files.
- Code added so that when a file is deleted, the selected file will remain in the current position rather than being reset to the top of the list.
Changed:
- Maximum file size is now UNLIMITED, to allow for extremely large files. BEWARE these can take a LONG time to load. (especially text files)
- Logic for blocking .exe and .com files through Maximum File Size changed, as file is not being loaded. Now regardless of Maximum File Size, an application can be launched.
- Shareware version increased from 50k Maximum File Size to 100K.
- The box showing the size of the file being viewed has had its properties changed, so now it is possible to click in this box, but you cannot do anything. This was necessary, as the text is now blue in colour so that it is clearer as to the size of the file when the box turns red.
- For the 'Application Launcher' the Maximum File Size and the Colour Bar have been disabled, as it seemed inappropriate that a Maximum File Size clamp was necessary.
- Re-organised the layout of the control boxes when the control bar is at the top to keep the two views consistent with each other.
- It was noticed that the bottom scroll bar in 'Image Mode' was not set correctly. This has been lowered.
Updated:
- Both the FASTview help ".txt" and the ".html" files have been updated.
5. FASTview Version 1.11
Release of software on 27th February 1999
Bug Fixes:
- Error in code when writing some of the 'File Filters' to the registry.
Added:
- Added an 'Application Launcher' to allow *.exe and *.com files to be launched from within the FASTview environment.
- Included error trapping for invalid or not ready drive errors.
- Extended functions being saved to the registry to reflect recent additions.
Updated:
- Both the FASTview help ".txt" and the ".html" files have been updated.
6. FASTview Version 1.10
Release of software on 6th February 1999
Bug Fixes:
- Error in code for holding tick box information for *.INI files on filter page.
- When the main form loaded, if an error occurred, it could cause a problem in loading form information.
- Some areas of the program did not pass control back to 'File List', which allows file scrolling.
- When editing a text file, after saving, the viewer would not load the new file selected.
- Refresh button did not reset the file directory back to the root as intended.
- When selecting 'Delete File' and then aborting by pressing the 'No' button was fixed, as it was not working.
- When printing, if the 'Cancel' button was pressed, this was not releasing common dialog control box routines properly.
- Problems with printing large text files, fixed by using different print method, which should be limitless.
- Printer error trapping was not functioning correctly, re-wrote entire error trapping routines.
- Zoom Scroll Bar code cleaned to stop numbers scrolling when not in image mode.
Cleaned Up:
- General code enhancements and improved on internal code comments.
- Split Registry Keys further from 2 to 3 areas, adding a 'Filter Key'.
Added:
- Added Active Movie Control.
- This control includes files with the extensions *.avi, *.mpg, *.mpeg, *.mov, *.wav, *.mid, *.qt and *.rmi.
- The 100%, 200%, 300% and 400% 'Quick Buttons' at the top of the main form now have some affect in Movie Mode.
- Also added *.jif and *.dib for images and *.log, *.frm, *.bas, *.vbp and *.lst for textual files.
- Put in 'Check Box' for viewing *.rtf files in either 'Rich Text File' format or normal text format.
- Altered 'Form Resize' code to allow for new layout of control boxes, and additions.
- Refresh button will now refresh ALL drives and not just the removable ones.
Changed:
- Visual layout of controls changed to include 'Check Box' for Rich Text File format.
